"I think there's something seriously wrong here," Matt told Lindsay and Anton when they got back to Derby's apartment.
"Yeah, no kidding," Lindsay replied sarcastically. "We can't get home, we don't know where we are, no one will help us..."
"I mean what's happening with Pete. He's been acting strange lately, to say the least."
"I think I might have an idea." Anton sat down on the floor with Matt and Lindsay. "There's something like a 'dimensional theory.' If one person exists in two different dimensions, as long as they don't meet, they'll be fine. But if there are two people, and one dies in one dimension but the other one doesn't, the living one might change. If he goes into the dead person's dimension, he might eventually take the dead person's place, adopting his habits and everything."
Lindsay could hardly believe what Anton was saying. "So you're saying that there's no Peter Axon in this dimension?"
"Only the one we know."
"So if we stay here, he's going to turn into a complete jerk?"
"Probably."
"We have to find a way to get home, and soon..."
Peter opened the apartment door and stepped inside, closing the door behind him. "I found a guy who sold radiology equipment and stuff, but he wouldn't sell for less than twelve hundred dollars," he announced, taking a seat on the floor.
Lindsay and Anton watched him for a minute, hoping he would be... himself. Matt muttered something about the equipment, but no one was listening.
"Great. So what are we going to do?"
"Challenge ourselves. We now have to find a way home without our stuff." Matt wasn't joking.
"Is that possible?"
"Probably not... but we can try, can't we?"
Anton looked skeptical, but didn?bject. They all knew they had no alternative. |
